Students living in the Durango, Bayfield and Ignacio areas of Southwest Colorado are served by several public school districts and several private institutions as well as a few colleges and universities. Learn more about these schools using the links below.

Durango School District 9-R serves one high school, two middle schools, seven elementary schools and two charter schools. Approximately 5,000 students attended 9-R schools in 1999/00.

Bayfield School District 10 serves one high school, one middle school and one elementary school with approximately 1,050 students.

Ignacio School District 11 serves one high school, one junior high, one intermediate and one elementary school with approximately 1,050 students.

Fort Lewis College, The College in the Sky, is a four-year, fully accredited, liberal arts college and a member of the Colorado State University System.

Pueblo Community College offers degree programs, evening classes and transferable credits to four-year schools.

The area also counts with 17 pre-schools, 35 licensed day-care, and five private schools.
