Nestled in the Pine River Valley, Bayfield (population 2,000) is a charming small town reminiscent of scenes from Norman Rockwell. Located 18 miles east of Durango, Bayfield is bordered on the south by lush, pastoral, rolling hills and on the north climbs in elevation to pine-covered mountains and alpine terrain.
The town itself has experienced some recent development both in commercial and residential properties but it has not affected the small town atmosphere of the community. The Bayfield School District is well respected and the town is very family oriented.
The Bayfield area lends itself to the outdoor enthusiast with access to public land and its crown jewel, Vallecito Lake. This high mountain lake is a mini “Lake Tahoe” perfect for fishing, water skiing, camping, hiking and much more.
Community events include an old fashioned 4th of July Parade down Mill Street, Homesteader Days complete with sheep drive through town, Farmers Market plus much more.
